India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is putting in the hard yards at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru after suffering a hamstring injury during Day 4 of the 1st Test against England at Hyderabad.

Jadeja posted a training video on his social media handle where he can be seen running and looked determined to make a comeback. The 34-year-old wrote on his Instagram,

“I am a rider. Don’t give up.”

Jadeja was ruled out of the 2nd Test due to his hamstring injury along with KL Rahul, who complained of pain in his right quadriceps.

“Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad while Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring the progress of the duo,” read the BCCI statement.

WHO REPLACES JADEJA?

Jadeja’s injury came in as a big blow to the Indian side, who already lost the 1st Test match by 28 runs and will be fielding a side without the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. In their absence, Sarfaraz Khan, Saurabh Kumar and Washington Sundar were included in India’s squad.

IS JADEJA A BIG MISS FOR 2ND TEST?

Jadeja played a crucial role in the 1st Test by scoring 87 runs in the 1st innings and helped India take a 190-run lead. He also chipped in with a total of 5 wickets in the match. While chasing a 231-run target in the 4th innings, Jadeja was ran-out by a brilliant throw from England captain Ben Stokes. Jadeja left the field, clutching his hamstring. After the BCCI announced Jadeja and Rahul’s replacement, the all-rounder reached the NCA for his rehabilitation.

A depleted Indian attack will take the field against an upbeat England team and would look to bounce back in Vizag after a defeat in the opening Test. In Jadeja’s absence, either Washington Sundar or Kuldeep Yadav could get to be part of India’s playing XI. The all-rounder had missed the 2021 home Test series against England as well after he had fractured his thumb.
