It goes without saying that Kane Williamson is going through a purple patch in Test cricket. The New Zealand batter has had a dream run, having scored back-to-back hundreds in the opening Test against South Africa at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

In the first innings, Williamson scored 109 runs off 132 balls with 12 fours and a six. The veteran upped his game and notched another century on Day 3 of the Test match. Williamson racked up 118 runs off 289 balls with the help of 16 fours.

On the back of his knock, the Black Caps have managed to take a massive lead of 528 runs in their second innings with 7 wickets in hand.

Kane Williamson on a milestone spree

Williamson, in the meantime, has achieved quite a few milestones with his 31st hundred in Test cricket. The right-handed batter scored his 18th Test hundred, and is joint-sixth in the list of most hundreds in Test cricket at home.

The legendary Don Bradman and former England skipper Joe Root also have 18 Test centuries at home. Mahela Jayawardene, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting hold the record with 23 hundreds apiece. In 46 home Tests, Williamson has scored 4487 runs at an average of 69.03.

Williamson also became the joint second-fastest to score 31 Test hundreds, along with Australia’s Steve Smith. Sachin Tendulkar holds the record, having got to the milestone in his 165th innings.

Moreover, Williamson became the fifth Kiwis batter to score two hundreds in the same match. The others are Glenn Turner, Geoff Howarth, Andrew Jones and Peter Fulton.

He has had a stupendous conversion rate, having converted 10 out of his last 11 fifty plus scores in Tests. He also became the batter with the most Test hundreds (3) at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
