`Former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan showered huge praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal as he compared the young opener’s playing style to that of former captain Sourav Ganguly. The ongoing Test series between India and England is one worth remembering for 22-year-old Jaiswal.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performances in the first two Tests in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam garnered applause from all around the cricket fraternity, especially for his maiden Test hundred turned double-hundred in the second Test at Vizag.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting resilience and composure has been the talking topic for many cricket pundits since the youngster played a pivotal role in India’s win in the second Test. Many have already dubbed him as one of the leading figures amongst the younger generation of the Indian cricket team.
From playing attacking cricket for his 80 in the first innings of the Hyderabad Test, to striking a fine balance between aggression and caution during his maiden double hundred in the first innings of Visakhapatnam Test. Walking into the third Test at Rajkot, Jaiswal is one of the players that England will be focusing especially on.
OFF SIDE GAME LIKE DADA: PATHAN
Talking at a public event broadcast by Star Sports, Irfan Pathan highlighted the similarity between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sourav Ganguly when it came to their off-side batting prowess. The former fast bowler backed Yashasvi to have a long stint with the senior national team, highlighing his rags-to-riches story.
“There’s one player who I’m excited for, he is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Now, it has to be seen how he performs in IPL. What an exciting player he isâæ He possesses the off-side game, just like Dada (Sourav Ganguly). Just like we used to see him and say, ‘He’s the king of the off-side’,” Irfan said.
“If he goes on to play for the next 10 years, we will speak about his game as much as we spoke about Dada’s. Jaiswal is that kind of a playerâæAnd now he has scored a double hundred in international hundred and he has a great background story,” Pathan added.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has established himself as the first-choice opener in the Test Indian side, providing the squad with the much-desired left-right combination at the top of their batting lineup.
Yashavi will be required to shoulder the burden of scoring at the top of the order as India will be without the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer in Rajkot.
