Rishabh Pant heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal after the young batter showed his class in the 5-match Test series against Ben Stokes’ England.
Jaiswal racked up 712 runs at an average of 89 and a strike-rate of 79.91 with 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries to show for his efforts.
In the second and third Tests in Vizag and Rajkot respectively, he also notched double hundreds. On the back of his knocks, India won the series 4-1.
Pant said that Jaiswal will go miles in his career if he continues putting in the hard yards.
Pant lauded Jaiswal while speaking to Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan on the Club Praire Fire podcast.
Long way to go
“Really amazing. The way all the youngsters are stepping up. I think it’s been really amazing because, you know, over a period of time; some new people come to the team,” Pant said.
“Every time you won’t see them performing, but when they perform and keep their heads (down)… Like not thinking too muchâæ And Jaiswal is someone who likes keeping his head down and just keeps doing what he is doing. And I think if he keeps on doing that, then there’s a long way to go,” he added.
Last year, Jaiswal broke KL Rahul’s record for the fastest fifty in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Thereafter, he made his debut for India in T20Is and Tests, and hasn’t looked back since then.
As far as Pant is concerned, he has been declared fit to play as a wicketkeeper-batter for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2024 IPL.
Pant has not played any form of competitive cricket since December 2022 after the horrific accident he suffered later that month. He had to walk on crutches as he made steady progress towards getting fully fit.
