Roger Federer was seen waving at the fans as he was shown on the videoboards at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Roger Federer made a return to the US Open as a fan for the evening session on Tuesday. The Swiss maestro turned up at the Flushing Meadows to witness a women’s singles quarter-final between Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen and a men’s singles quarter-final between Grigor Dimitrov and Frances Tiafoe. The official X handle (formerly Twitter) of the US Open shared a video of Federer receiving a rousing reception. “Welcome back, legend! Great to have you in Arthur Ashe Stadium, Roger Federer,” read the post. Federer, who announced his retirement in 2022, was seen waving at the fans as he was shown on the videoboards at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The post went viral in no time garnering reactions from social media users. “Pure class superstar athlete who has avoided impropriety and conducted himself with dignity and humility crafting an image of grace, sportsmanship, and personal integrity. The rarest example of athletic excellence combined with esteemed character making him truly beloved,” commented one X user.

Roger Federer also recently talked about Jannik Sinner’s doping case. “It’s not something we want to see in our sport. This type of news, regardless of whether he did something or not … It’s just noise that we don’t want. I understand the frustration about has he been treated the same as others, and I think this is where it comes down to,” Federer said in an interview with NBC’s Today Show on Tuesday, as per Reuters.

Five-time US Open champion, Roger Federer had last competed in the competition in 2019. Back then, he had qualified for the quarter-finals. The Swiss legend had succeeded in winning the US Open title five consecutive times from 2004-08. He also reached the final in 2009 and 2015. Federer retired from professional tennis following the Laver Cup in 2022.
