David Warner received a special parting gift from the Pakistan team as captain Shan Masood presented the retiring opener a Babar Azam jersey that was signed by the whole side.

Warner bid adieu to Test cricket with a memorable final performance at his homeground, the SCG. Born on October 27, 1986, in Paddington, Australia, Warner’s illustrious Test career spanned 112 matches, where he amassed 8,786 runs at an average of 44.60, including 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries.

His aggressive batting style was complemented by a strike rate of 70.20, and he was also renowned for his exceptional slip fielding, taking 91 catches.

Warner’s last Test innings came against Pakistan, where he scored a spirited 57, leading Australia’s chase in their fourth innings. Despite falling short of carrying his bat through the innings, Warner’s contribution helped seal a 3-0 series victory for Australia.

His final knock was marked by a fairytale half-century, which he celebrated with a muted acknowledgment, receiving a hug from teammate Marnus Labuschagne and the warm applause of fans and teammates alike.

Masood would call Warner on to the stage and gifted him the jersey autographed by the whole Pakistan team. The Pakistan skipper thanked Warner for his contributions to the game and wished him the best for his future.

“I want to give a token of appreciation and a bit of gift for David Warner. Can you please come on the stage. Thank You So Much. We as a team thought of giving you Babar Azam shirt with signatures of all players and all the best for all the future endeavors,” said Masood.

Emotional David Warner says his dream came true

Warner, who was emotional after the match, said it was a dream come true moment for him as the Australian team won the series 3-0 to continue a magnificent run that saw them win the World Test Championship, ODI World Cup and retain the Ashes in England.

“It’s pretty much a dream come true. You win 3-0, cap off what’s been a great 18 months to 2 years for the Australian cricket team. World Test Championship win, an Ashes series draw and then the World Cup. To come here and finish 3-0 is an outstanding achievement,” Warner was quoted as saying after the match.
