UEFA said the club was charged with “racism and/or other discriminatory conduct,” and the disciplinary sanction will apply on Nov. 6 when Barcelona plays at Red Star Belgrade.
UEFA banned Barcelona on Friday from selling tickets to fans for its next away game in the Champions League for displaying a banner with Nazi overtones about the team’s new German coach.
A black flag with the words “Flick Heil” in apparent tribute to coach Hansi Flick was displayed during a 2-1 loss at Monaco last week.
UEFA said the club was charged with “racism and/or other discriminatory conduct,” and the disciplinary sanction will apply on Nov. 6 when Barcelona plays at Red Star Belgrade.
UEFA said its disciplinary judges also fined Barcelona 10,000 euros ($11,000) and ordered a new probationary sanction for a repeat offense in the next year. In April, fans made Nazi salutes at Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League game.
“The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has decided to order the enforcement of the suspended disciplinary measure imposed by the UEFA Appeals Body in its decision on 17 April 2024 for the racist behaviour of its supporters, i.e. to ban FC Barcelona from selling tickets to its away supporters for the next UEFA competition match in accordance with Article 26(3) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations,” UEFA said in a statement.
Barcelona were fined 10,000 euros and were also handed an additional one match ban from selling tickets to their away supporters that was suspended for one year.
Monaco beat Barcelona 2-1 at their Louis-II stadium last week.
Barca’s next away game is in Belgrade against Red Star on Nov. 6.
