In the first T20I at the Eden Park in Auckland, Rizwan equalled Mohammad Hafeez’s record before breaking it in Hamilton. The 31-year-old smacked Tim Southee over mid-wicket to start his knock after Pakistan were asked to chase down a stiff target of 195.
Rizwan, currently, has 77 sixes to his name from 87 matches and is well on his way to becoming the first Pakistani batter to hit 100 maximums in T20Is.
In women’s cricket, Nida Dar, also the second-highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is, holds the record for Pakistan, having hit 30 sixes from 141 matches.
As far as Rizwan is concerned, he could not survive for long as Adam Milne accounted for his wicket. The bowler got one to shape away from the batter and Rizwan was caught off guard. Rizwan made a tentative push only and found an outside edge after which Devon Conway took a simple catch.
Rizwan scored seven runs off five balls before departing. Pakistan, captained by Shaheen Shah Afridi, found themselves in all sorts of trouble after being reduced to 10 for the loss of two wickets in 1.3 overs.
Rizwan is also 171 runs away from becoming the second Pakistani batter to score 3000 runs in T20Is. The veteran has been a key member of the Pakistan T20I team, having notched 2829 runs at an average of 47.94 and a strike-rate of 127.66 with one century and 25 half-centuries to show for his efforts.
