Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra wants KL Rahul to bat in the middle order in the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Chopra feels that batting at No.4 is the only way for KL Rahul to get into the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
Rahul opens the batting for his franchise Lucknow Super Giants but is currently out of the scheme of things from the Indian T20I side. The Indian team had moved on from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul after the T20 World Cup 2022 loss but decided to bring back Rohit and Kohli right before the 2024 edition of the tournament.
With the top order packed, Chopra argued that Rahul’s only chance to get back into the T20I team is by securing the middle-order spot. Chopra has further added that KL Rahul’s switch to the middle order will not hurt LSG.
“You might see KL Rahul at No. 4. If he wants to play the World Cup, he probably needs to bat at No. 4. You might see one among Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni and Prerak Mankad playing at No. 3. They have plenty of options available to get the work done,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
LSG traded in Devdutt Padikkal ahead of the 2024 season, who could be the perfect fit for the opening spot if Rahul decides to demote himself down the order.
“After No. 4, they have Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, and Ayush Badoni along with Krunal Pandya down the order. Suddenly you see a lot of depth in the batting. So they have prepared a very good team,” Chopra further added.
