Steve Smith is hoping to get the better of West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph in the second Test after being troubled by the youngster in Adelaide.
Shamar made a remarkable entry into Test cricket against Australia. On the opening day of his debut match in Adelaide on January 17.
He not only scored a rapid 36 runs at No. 11 but also showcased his bowling prowess. He achieved an extraordinary feat by taking the wicket of Australia’s seasoned player Steve Smith with his very first delivery in Test cricket. Joseph lured Smith into an edge that was adeptly caught at slip, marking a dream start to his Test career.
This dismissal was part of a five-wicket haul for Joseph in the match, which included another key player, Marnus Labuschagne. Despite Joseph’s impressive performance, Australia maintained control of the first test and won it easily in the end.
Smith took some time off and even posed for a picture with Shamar, which he commented about while talking to SEN. The Aussie star said he is hoping to get on top of the West Indies pacer during the second match.
“Yeah we have a picture (Shamar and himself), his first Test wicket. I think I am many people’s first Test wicket (laughs) so hopefully I can get on top of him this week,” said Smith.
He drew me into a shot that I potentially wouldn’t play: Smith on Shamar
Smith commented on opening the batting and said it was fun. He went on to explain why he was caught off guard by the West Indies pacer’s delivery and is hoping to be better against him the match in Brisbane.
“(Opening) It was good fun. Obviously couldn’t get through Shamar’s first ball. Hadn’t faced him before. Saw a bit on the vision and the vision showed me that he actually bowled the ball back in so it kind of drew me into a shot that I potentially wouldn’t play. Had a look at him now so better for the run, I suppose,” said Smith.
The second Test match will start from January 25.
