Brentford manager Thomas Frank has admitted that star striker Ivan Toney could be sold in the summer amidst rumours linking him with interest from both Chelsea and Arsenal.

Toney has been at the centre of transfer speculation, with Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly showing keen interest. Despite missing the first half of the 2023/24 season, Toney’s impressive track record has kept him in the spotlight.

After returning from an eight-month ban due to breaching betting rules, Toney immediately made his mark by scoring against Nottingham Forest in a 3-2 victory for Brentford. His return was likened to signing a top-tier Premier League striker, as acknowledged by Brentford’s manager Thomas Frank.

As the January transfer window drew to a close, both Arsenal and Chelsea were alerted to his availability, although Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta ruled out a move for Toney at that time. Toney himself expressed openness to joining a “top club,” fueling further speculation about a possible high-profile transfer.

Speaking to Danish media, Frank said it could be a possibility the England forward could be sold in the summer. The Brentford boss admitted that club is aware of Toney’s worth and hailed him as one of the best strikers in the world.

While Frank admitted that he would love to keep his top striker, the Brentford boss said that he would like to see Toney play for a top club.

“It is relatively obvious that Ivan Toney will probably be sold this summer,” Frank told the Danish media via Tipsbladet. “We also know what he is worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.”

“He is a really skilled striker who is in his prime football age. Personally, as a coach, I would prefer to keep Toney but one day it could be fun to see him on a top team.”

In January, there were no offers for Toney: Thomas Frank

While Toney’s future was a topic of discussion during the January transfer window, Frank claimed that there were no offers that came in for the striker at that time. The Brentford boss, however, said he would surprised if some big clubs didn’t come calling in the summer.

“This winter, we actually had no offers for him, but it will surprise me if there aren’t a lot of clubs that will be interested in him,” added the Dane.
