Matthew Wade reckoned there’s room for both him and Jos Inglis to be a part of Australia’s playing XI in T20Is. After winning the ODI series 3-0, Australia are set to face West Indies in a 3-match T20I series.
Both Inglis and Wade are a part of the home team’s squad. Wade said that he is happy batting in a specialist position at No.7. He also said that Australia have a settled middle-order with the likes of Tim David and Marcus Stoinis also adding a lot of firepower.
“I’ve been batting seven when I’ve been playing in a specialist role. I’m obviously a left-hander as well, (which) towards the back end (of the innings) is something that we’re quite happy with,” Wade said in a press conference before the T20I series.
“Myself, (Tim) David and (Marcus) Stoinis have been through that middle-order âæ over the last few years so we’re pretty confident and happy with how we line up there.”
Josh Inglis putting his hands up
Wade also heaped praise on Inglis for batting his heart out in the opportunities that he has got. Last year, Inglis made the record for the joint-fastest century by an Australian in the Men’s T20Is.
Inglis raced his way to scoring a 47-ball century against India in Visakhapatman.
“But I think ‘Ingo’s’ pushing hard for spot, he’s batted terrifically well in every game he’s played in white-ball cricket as well and he was good in India,” Wade said.
“So whether that be the top of the order or he finds a spot through the middle, he’s definitely there putting his hand up to get picked in the first XI as a batter,” he added.
In 15 T20Is, Inglis has scored 387 runs at an average of 29.76 and a strike-rate of 158.60.
The first T20I between West Indies and Australia is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 9 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
