The Australian Open 2024 has reached its business end with the men’s singles semi-finals set to take centre stage on day 13 on January 26, Friday.
The two matches set to take place at the Rod Laver Arena will see Novak Djokovic take on the upbeat Jannik Sinner, who seems to be in impressive form. Djokovic is inching closer to a historic 25th Grand Slam title and his 11th Australian Open title.
After a shaky start to the competition, the Serbian star would deliver top performances in the remaining matches on his way to the final four stages of the grand slam. Djokovic was tested by Taylor Fritz as he dropped a set but would come back to claim the win.
However, to reach the final, he must first overcome the challenge posed by Sinner. The Italian has impressively not dropped a set on his way to the semi-finals and will provide stiff competition to the World No.1 with his fiery aces.
Sinner has said, as quoted by Reuters, that he is lucky to be facing the World No.1 in the semis and said he would give his 100 percent during the battle.
“I’m really lucky to be facing the world number one in the semi-finals,” Sinner, who lost to Djokovic at Wimbledon last year in his maiden Grand Slam semi-final, said on court.
“It’s going to be tough but the only thing I can control is that I’ll fight 100% for every ball and see what happens.”
The second match of the day will take place during the night session and will see Alexander Zverev renew his rivalry with Daniil Medvedev. Zverev overcame World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz in four sets to reach the final four stage.
Medvedev has found himself being part of a few thrillers this time around in Melbourne and is hoping to reach the final. The Russian holds the advantage over Zverev in their head-to-head at the moment, but the German is determined to make things right.
