After being snubbed from Test series squad for the South Africa tour, Cheteshwar Pujara has returned to his English county home Sussex for the 2024 season.

Pujara was a part of the squad for the World Test Championship final earlier in the year, but found himself dropped for the tour of the West Indies and the squad announced for the Test series against South Africa.

The Indian batter has been a part of the Sussex side for the past three seasons and has a terrific record with them. Pujara even captained the English side and scored a hundred on his debut as skipper for the side.

In his first season in 2022, Pujara scored 1,094 runs, which also included five hundreds. In 2023, Pujara continued his fine form and scored three centuries.

Pujara will be available for the first seven county championship games for Sussex, the English side announced on their website. Alongside the Indian batter, Sussex have also brought in Daniel Hughes.

“Sussex Cricket is delighted to announce the re-signing of India Test batter, Cheteshwar Pujara and Australian batter, Daniel Hughes as overseas signings for the 2024 season.”

“Fan favourite Cheteshwar Pujara will return to The 1st Central County Ground for a third season running and will be available for the first seven County Championship games.”

“Thereafter, Daniel Hughes will be available from the start of the T20 Vitality Blast until the end of the season. He will play in the County Championship, as well as the Blast.”

Pujara said he was delighted to be back with Sussex and eager to join the team ahead of the new season.

“I have enjoyed my time at Hove the last couple of seasons and couldn’t be more delighted to be back again with the Sussex family.”

“I am looking forward to joining the team and contributing to its success,” said Pujara.
