Back in 2005, Keanu Reeves joined DC in the role of the supernatural exorcist and demonologist John Constantine. After this movie, he left behind a mindblown audience who had been begging Keanu Reeves to come back as John Constantine. After 18 long years, it seems that our childhood dream of witnessing Keanu fighting demons once again is coming to life. In a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, Francis Lawrence, the director of the first Constantine movie confirmed that Constantine 2 is in the works. So, let’s learn all we know so far about the upcoming Constantine 2 movie.
Constantine 2 Confirmed
In a recent report, Francis Lawrence talked about his projects. In the interview, he also revealed that Constantine 2 is under-works with him alongside Keanu Reeves. Along with the fabulous direction of Lawrence and the on-screen talents of Keanu, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman will display his talents in creating the script for Constantine 2.
“The regime at DC changed, and they’ve got their plans. But luckily, we managed to wrangle some control and started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we’re really excited about. It’s still the very beginning, as the strike put it on hold for a little bit. So we’re probably going to start getting back together after Thanksgiving, and dig back in to try and crack it” – Francis Lawrence
So guys, keeping that statement in mind, we can say for certain that Constantine 2 is finally coming. Although the information regarding this movie is kind of limited as of now, I for one cannot wait to see Keanu reappear on the screen as Constantine.
Constantine 2 Release Date
Now the big question is when will Constantine 2 hit the theaters? Considering everything going on with the DCU under the regime of James Gunn, under upcoming DC movies, his next big project is Superman Legacy. After which, “Batman Brave and The Bold” is next.
Now the possibility is that Constantine could be set in the DC Elseworld Universe where “The Batman” takes place. Another possibility is that Constantine will come out in the DCU right after Superman Legacy. If you’re aware of the dynamic between Batman and Constantine, Gunn might make it happen in live-action as well.
Considering these points, if the works on Constantine 2 begin by Thanksgiving, we can expect the movie to get a release date scheduled by the end of 2025 or in the middle of 2026. This will give James Gunn enough room to fit Constantine in future DCU projects.
Constantine 2 Trailer
As of now, we don’t have a trailer for Constantine 2 yet but now that we have been confirmed that the movie is under works, we can expect the trailer to drop any time next year.
Constantine 2 Cast

If we talk about the cast of Constantine 2, Keanu Reeves is making an epic comeback in the role of John Constantine. Moreover, we can speculate that Rachel Weisz might make a comeback as Angela Dodson along with Djimon Hounsou in the role of Midnite, the frenemy of Constantine. If we talk about villains, Peter Stormare can possibly make a comeback as Lucifer, but this time, we would appreciate him in a black suit.
Looking at Constantine 2 from a more critical perspective, the positive and the negative thing about this movie at the same time will be the age of the first Constantine movie. It has been too long, and if they want to make this movie work, they’ll have to give the audience the same quality of screenplay, writing, and character depth as the first movie.
As of now, we do not know if there are going to be any new faces to be seen in Constantine 2, but as soon as more updates about this movie start rolling out, we will provide you with updates ASAP!
Constantine 2 Plot
As far as the plot of Constantine 2 is concerned, Akiva Goldsman, the screenwriter of the first movie, gave an interview with The Deadline where he stated that,
“The character is very much Keanu and the way he and Francis saw the world of good and evil, and the wonderful and authentic noir where there is a world behind the world of good and evil coexist with our world right up close. Beyond that, we are still discovering it as I am writing the script.”
According to this statement, it seems that the movie is pretty much going to have the same base as the first Constantine movie where Constantine is trying to make sure that the boundaries between earth and hell stay intact. There are multiple plotlines that Constantine 2 can explore. It can run a direct sequel where we learn that Tilda Swinton’s Gabriel is still alive and comes back even though she did not wish to be in Constantine (2005).
Constantine 2 can also find its way into the broader spectrum of DCU with other DC superheroes. We already know that a project revolving around Swamp Thing is in the works at DC Studios and since Constantine and Swamp Thing are both set in the same Hellblazer universe of DC, they can set up a storyline that leads Constantine into the broader DC universe.
Recently, the director of the first Constantine movie, Francis Lawrence confirmed that he is working on Constantine 2 with Keanu Reeves alongwith Akiva Goldsman.
John Constantine is a DC Comics character who made his debut in the comic issue of Swamp Thing #37 (June 1985) in the Hellblazer run of DC Comics.
Keanu Reeves is all set to make a return as John Constantine in a confirmed sequel of Constantine.
