India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja went past former captain Sourav Ganguly to become the 15th Indian to score 1000 Test runs against England. Jadeja reached the milestone in the first session on Day 2 of their third Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Jadeja, who started Day 2 at 110 runs, could only add a couple more runs to his total before being caught and bowled by Joe Root. He departed after scoring 112 runs off 225 balls, smashing nine boundaries and two sixes.

IND vs ENG, 3rd Test: Day Report

Jadeja stitched a crucial partnership with captain Rohit Sharma to turn the tide of the match. The two batters formed a 201-run stand to steer India out of trouble and take control of the game.

Following Rohit’s dismissal after scoring 131 runs, Jadeja formed another important partnership with Sarfaraz, which saw the debutant batter score his maiden half-century.

However, a mix-up between Jadeja and Sarfaraz caused the Mumbai-based batter to be run-out on 62 runs after facing just 66 deliveries, bringing an end to their 77-run partnership.

Jadeja then went on to complete his fourth Test century but celebrated it in subdued fashion following the unfortunate dismissal of Sarfaraz.

JADEJA APOLOGIZES TO SARFARAZ

In fact, following the end of play on Day 1, Jadeja took to social media platform Instagram to congratulate Sarfaraz on his debut half-century, while accepting that it was his mistake that caused the run-out.

“Feeling bad for Sarfaraz Khan. It was my wrong call. Well played” Jadeja posted on his Instagram story.

However, Sarfaraz said he was okay with what happened on Day 1, insisting that Jadeja kept guiding him during their stay in the middle.

“Jadeja was guiding me through the innings. He told me to spend some time in the crease and said that the runs would follow. He came to me and said that a little bit of miscommunication happened’. I was okay with it,” said Sarfaraz.
