Former India batter Aakash Chopra has said that it would be incorrect to judge wicket-keeping batter Sanju Samson on just one game. India is all set to take on Afghanistan in the third and final T20I at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
IND vs AFG, 3rd T20I: Weather report
Having won the opening two matches of their T20I series against Afghanistan, the Men in Blue will be looking to complete a clean-sweep over the Afghans in Bengaluru. The Indian team management may look to make some changes and try out different combination in the final T20I.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma’s place in the T20 World Cup squad is not cemented yet. Jitesh has scored 31 runs in two matches in the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan.
“The question is whether you should keep Jitesh or Sanju at No. 6. If Jitesh had cemented his place totally, if there hadn’t been a question mark at all in front of Jitesh’s name, that he is definitely going to the World Cup, you could have thought about Sanju. However, Jitesh is not confirmed yet,” said Chopra.
He went on to say that it would be incorrect to judge Samson on just one match. Samson scored a hundred against South Africa in the last ODI of their three-match series but has not played for India in the T20I series against Afghanistan.
“There is a flip side to that as well. Assuming you play Sanju, will you judge him with one match? It’s incorrect. Whoever you try, give him three chances at least. This is what has happened with Sanju throughout his career,” Chopra added.
This series is India’s last international assignment ahead of the T20 World Cup, which begins from June 1. India will look to make the most of this match and the upcoming 17th edition of IPL in order to figure out their combination for the marquee tournament.
