Former India batter Aakash Chopra has said that India skipper Rohit Sharma is at his very best when he is aggressive. India is set to take on Afghanistan in the third and final T20I of their series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17.
IND vs AFG, 2nd T20I: Scorecard
Rohit made his comeback to T20I cricket after a gap of 14 months against Afghanistan. However, his return to the shortest format of the game did not go as planned, being dismissed on ducks in India’s first two matches against the Afghans.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said it seemed like Rohit adopted an ultra-aggresive approach in the first two matches against Afghanistan. Rohit was run-out on a duck in Mohali while being dismissed by Fazalhaq Farooqi in Indore.
“The way Rohit batted in the first two matches, it seemed like he was adopting an ultra-aggressive mode, that he would try to hit every ball and do that without getting set. He got run out once. There, too, he hit Fazalhaq Farooqi after stepping out and got out off the first ball in Indore,” said Chopra.
He went on to say that Rohit is at his very best when he is aggressive, which he showed at the ODI World Cup. Rohit was the second-highest scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup, amassing 597 runs in 11 matches.
“You ask whether he will be seen batting slightly differently in Bengaluru. I feel he will try to bat similarly. Rohit Sharma is at his very best when he is aggressive. He showed that by doing it consistently in the ODI World Cup as well. It made a difference in the end,” Chopra added.
India will be looking to complete a clean-sweep against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, having won the first match by 6 wickets in Mohali and by the same margin in Indore.
