South Africa great Jacques Kallis believes that while Team India possesses a strong team, it’s challenging to defeat South Africa on their home turf. The Indian team’s tour to South Africa has traditionally been one of their toughest trials, and it will be no different this time.
India lost the three-match Test series 2-1 and were blanked 3-0 in the ODI series on their previous tour to South Africa in 2021-22. They’ll be aiming for a far better performance this time.
For the tour, the Men in Blue will be led by three different captains. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20I team and KL Rahul in the ODIs. Youngsters are being checked for the white ball leg. The major guns will be back for the red-ball games, with Rohit Sharma leading the side in a two-match series as part of the WTC cycle.
“This is a good Indian team, but South Africa is tough to beat in South Africa. Centurion will probably suit South Africa and Newlands will probably suit India. I think it will be a good series, and it will come down to one or two sessions that one team might play better than the other. I think it would be a closely fought contest,”Jacques Kallis told PTI.
The first T20I of India’s tour of South Africa in 2023-24 will take place on December 10 in Kingsmead, Durban. The following T20Is will be contested at Gqeberha’s St George’s Park on December 12 and Johannesburg’s New Wanderers Stadium on December 14.
Following the T20Is, there will be three ODI series. Johannesburg will host the opening ODI on December 17. The second and third ODIs will be played on December 19 and 21, respectively, in Gqeberha and Boland Park in Paarl.
Two Test matches will end India’s trip of South Africa. The first Test will be held at SuperSport Park in Centurion from December 26 to 30, with the second at Newlands in Cape Town from January 3 to 7.
