Dale Steyn had rich praise reserved for Jasprit Bumrah after the Indian pacer’s heroics helped his side to win the Vizag Test against England.
Bumrah’s performance in the 2nd Test against Ben Stokes and Co. was nothing short of spectacular. The pacer claimed a remarkable six-wicket haul in the first innings, including the key wickets of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, which played a pivotal role in setting up India’s commanding position in the match.
His figures of 6/45 were instrumental in India’s victory, and his additional three wickets in the second innings further demonstrated his dominance.
Bumrah’s ability to generate reverse swing with ease and deliver unplayable yorkers left the English batters struggling for answers. The fiery yorker to dismiss the dangerous Ollie Pope received a lot of praise from fans and pundits.
Bumrah’s exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Match award in Vizag and also helped him to climb to the top of the ICC Test rankings for bowlers.
The latest person to shower his praise on the Indian pacer is Steyn, who hailed Bumrah as a ‘fantastic bowler.’

Speaking to the media ahead of the SA20 final, the South African legend said that Bumrah’s ability to take wickets on docile pitches makes him a fantastic bowler and claimed that the Indian pacer is one of the few in world cricket who has the ability to produce wicket-taking yorkers.
“All round he’s a fantastic bowler. And it’s no surprise with his skiddy kind of action that he’s got that. He takes wickets on those docile pitches, so he’s fantastic. I don’t think there’s any Test bowlers right now who are able to run in and bowl essentially wicket-taking yorkers. To take wickets in Test matches, there are probably a handful of guys who could do that. Trent Boult was one of that, Mitchell Starc maybe. And obviously, Bumrah,” said Steyn.
Steyn also said that one of the things Bumrah has done really well in recent times is to take the pitch out of the equation.
“I remember saying ages back that a good yorker bowled in India or South Africa or Australia remains a good yorker because you take the surface out of it, doesn’t matter where you bowled it. You take the pitch away and I think that’s one thing that he’s done really well.”
