India batter Shubman Gill found his form back in Vizag. On Day 3 of the 2nd Test, Shubman hit a gritty century to bail India out of trouble. The batter snapped out of his form slump hitting his first century since Ahmedabad, 2023.

This was also Gill’s first hundred at the No. 3 position. Before this, Gill had not scored a single half-century at the No. 3 position in the last 11 innings in his Test career. Gill was lucky to survive three close calls in the morning. There were two LBW shouts against the batter where he was saved by the DRS and then a thick outside edge flew past Joe Root standing at first slip.

From there, the batter upped his game and completed a stunning century. Gill looked in a punishing mood against the spinners, who had bothered him in the first Test match of the series. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen was thrilled with Gill’s century and put out a social media post for the batter.

Pietersen had earlier shown trust in Gill after the first Test match, having criticised him heavily earlier. Pietersen had launched a rant against Gill during the Hyderabad Test match, calling him out on his approach. After Shubman’s twin failure in Hyderabad, Pietersen had softened his tone and had asked everyone to give Gill more time.

“The average is not looking healthy and those numbers are a sight for sore eyes. You don’t want to look at them. But there is a reason why he is batting at No.3 it’s because of the kind of player that he is and what he can do. So I am not too bothered about two dismissals. What I would be bothered about is his performances in the second and third Test matches,” Pietersen had said.

“I don’t think you can get rid of somebody as quickly as one Test match. He will definitely play in Vizag and let’s have a look and see how he prepares for the next Test. Let’s not cast Shubman Gill aside and say he can’t play. He can play. When you talk about feelings, he give me the feeling of sheer joy and delight when he walks out to bat. I want to watch him bat,” Pietersen had argued.

The former batter had further compared Gill with Kallis and had said that Gill might come good in Vizag.

Kallis averaged 22 in his first 10 Tests and turned out to be arguably the greatest player to play the game.

Give @ShubmanGill time to find it please.

He’s a serious player! #INDvENG

Shubman’s innings dug India out of trouble after India lost two early wickets on Sunday. Gill hit 104 off 147 which included 11 boundaries and 2 sixes. At the time of writing, India had taken a 370-run lead at Tea.
