Mumbai Indians (MI) paid tribute to Rohit Sharma after the Indian batter racked up his 11th Test hundred on Day 1 of the Rajkot Test against England.

Rohit got to his hundred in the post-Tea session of the opening day’s play. In the first over of the last session, Rohit creamed leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed for 2 runs through the point region to bring up his 3-figure score off 157 deliveries. | IND vs ENG, 3rd Test scorecard

Praising the veteran for the spectacular knock, MI wrote, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”.

Recently, MI removed Rohit as their captain and appointed Hardik Pandya for the role ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Rohit took charge of the MI team back in 2013 and guided his team to 5 titles. Rohit also flourished as a batter for them as he is amongst the leading run-scorers in the history of the IPL.

Rohit Sharma dictates terms to England

Rohit was under a bit of pressure prior to the Rajkot Test as he was not getting a lot of runs. In fact, since the tour of the West Indies last year, the 36-year-old had not got a 50 plus score.

However, he came out firing on all cylinders in Rajkot and returned to form. After opting to bat first, India found themselves in a spot of bother after being reduced to 33 for 3 in 8.5 overs.

Thereafter, Rohit joined hands with Ravindra Jadeja and brought his team back into the contest. He brought up his half-century off 71 balls and stayed not out on 97 at the end of the post-lunch session.

Rohit did not take much time to get past 100 after he resumed batting in the final session. During this while, Rohit also toppled MS Dhoni’s tally of sixes by an Indian batter in Test cricket.
