Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is not taking the team’s home dominance for granted ahead of the Test series against England. Rohit, in the pre-series press conference, cleared that the Indian team don’t regard themselves as ‘unbeatable’ despite their brilliant record in home Test series for over a decade. The 35-year-old emphasised on staying consistent to maintain good results.

The skipper pointed out that the Cape Town win against South Africa was special, but the conditions will be very different in Hyderabad for the 1st Test. The Indian team will take a lot of confidence from their 7-wicket win against South Africa.

INDIA’S HOME DOMINANCE IN TESTS

India have established themselves as a dominant team on their home turf. The team has maintained an unbeaten record at home in Test series for the past 12 years. India’s last Test series loss came back in 2012 when they lost the series 1-2 against the Alastair Cook-led Indian team. Ever since, India has managed to win 15 consecutive Test series.

While India couldn’t conquer the ‘final frontier’ after they managed a 1-1 draw against South Africa in January, the Indian team has extended its dominance in overseas conditions as well.

Winning in India has been a daunting task for overseas teams, as India have managed to turn their backyard into an unbreachable fortress. Out of the 48 Tests played in India since 2013, India have managed to win 38 of those and lost just 3 matches (India vs Australia in 2017 and 2023 and India vs England 1st Test in Chennai in 2021).

“I don’t think we are unbeatable. We don’t want to think like that. But whatever past records that we have over the last decade or so, do not guarantee that we will come out on top in this series. We have to play well to win this series,” Rohit said during his pre-match press meet on January 25, Wednesday.

“The Cape Town win was good but this match is in Hyderabad. It is different conditions, different opposition. But yeah, that win has given us a lot of confidence and we can take that into this series,” Rohit added.

The 1st Test match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on January 25.
