India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has brushed aside the remark Ben Duckett had made during the recently-concluded India vs England Test series.
What did Duckett say about Jaiswal during the series?
After Day 3 during the Rajkot Test, when Jaiswal had scored the first of his two double hundreds during the series, England opener Duckett claimed that they should get some credit for the way Jaiswal batted against them.
“When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket,” said Duckett.
The comments from the opener would receive a lot of backlash, with the likes of Nasser Hussain criticising Duckett. Finally, Jaiswal has now broken his silence on the matter.
Speaking to the Indian Express, the opener said that he would rather not discuss the remark from Duckett and let his work on the ground do the talking for him.
“I don’t want to say anything about it. I just need to try and do whatever I can do on the ground that says the best I can do,” said Jaiswal.
A great feeling: Jaiswal on England series heroics
Jaiswal scored a mammoth 712 runs in 9 innings against, making him the second Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar to achieve the landmark in a bilateral series. He would also break a host of records and also broke into the top 10 of the ICC Test Rankings.
Jaiswal said it was a great feeling to perform well against England but wants to stay more focused for his side. The young opener said he is taking things one match at a time.
“It’s a great feeling, I’m happy but I want to be more focused, so that I can do well for my team. I’m not thinking about anything today. I want to take one match at a time. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so I don’t want to think too much,” said Jaiswal.
Jaiswal will be in action next during the IPL 2024 season for the Rajasthan Royals.
