India’s hero in their U-19 World Cup Super Six clash against New Zealand, Musheer Khan, revealed that he had a chat with his brother Sarfaraz after he was called up into the India squad for the second Test against England.
Musheer delivered a stunning performance with bat and ball on January 30 as India secured an easy win in the end against the Blackcaps. The 18-year-old came in with his team in a spot of bother and quickly steadied things for his side.
Musheer scored 131 off just 126 balls as India posted a tough target of 296 runs for New Zealand to chase. Musheer would then chip in with 2 wickets in 3.1 overs as India won the match by 214 runs to start their Super Six campaign on a high.
It has been a great time for the family as Sarfaraz’ efforts finally were repaid as he got called up into the squad for the second Test in Vizag.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Musheer said he did get a call from Sarfaraz, who shared the news with him.
“My brother called me yesterday and he said that he has been selected in the Indian squad for the second Test,” said Musheer.
Want to continue batting well: Musheer Khan
Musheer’s second hundred in the tournament also meant that he became the first batter since Shikhar Dhawan to score multiple hundreds in a single edition of the U-19 World Cup. The 18-year-old said it felt good to have two hundreds under his belt and wants to continue batting well.
Musheer also praised the bowlers for their performance on the day and said his focus was on bowling in tight areas.
“It feels really good that I have scored two centuries and I want to continue batting well. It gives a sense of confidence. It was a bit of a slow pitch and our bowlers are in good flow and we got the results. I focus on the process and focus on bowling in tight areas,” said Musheer.
