Jasprit Bumrah hit the ground running immediately after he joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp on Friday, March 22 for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In a video uploaded on the official social media handles of the franchise, Bumrah can be seen focussed on a catching session. Bumrah took a couple of easy catches at a comfortable height to begin the session. But the last catch he took was stunning, to say the least.

The ball was quite some distance away from him, and he had put in a dive to catch hold of the cricket leather. Bumrah showed great reflexes to take the catch. He kept his eyes on the ball and showed his brilliance as a safe catcher. Rohit Sharma, the former skipper of MI, was standing behind him and was pleasantly surprised by Bumrah’s catching.

The 36-year-old Rohit gave a stunned reaction, after which he applauded Bumrah. Rohit, himself, was seen honing his catching skills later.

Bumrah, Rohit to play critical roles

Last year, Bumrah missed the IPL due to an injury. This year, he would be itching to go on the ground and show what he can do when in full flow. Bumrah recently had a spectacular series against England where he also picked up a 6-wicket haul in the second Test in Vizag. During this while, he also became the No.1 ranked bowler in Test cricket.

As far as Rohit is concerned, he is no longer the skipper of the Mumbai-based team. Hardik Pandya, who made a move from the Gujarat Titans, is their new captain.

However, having led MI to 5 IPL titles, Rohit remains a crucial member of the team. He is also amongst the leading run-scorers in the history of the tournament.

MI’s first match in IPL 2024 is against the Titans on Sunday, March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
