The Olympic double-medalist even shared a glimpse of her celebration on Instagram.
After winning two medals at the Paris Olympics, Indian sports shooter Manu Bhaker returned to her country to a hero’s welcome. Manu is currently spending some quality time away from sports. And, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Manu spent time with her family members.
The Olympic double-medalist even shared a glimpse of her celebration on Instagram. Manu posted a picture with her brother. In the photo, the siblings can be seen holding a note in their hands which marks the traditional way of celebrating Raksha Bandhan. In another video, she can be seen cooking at home. “Chutti ka sahi istemal krte hue maa ki classes, [Making the right use of my holidays with classes from mother],” read the caption.
At the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker came up with a spirited show having won two bronze medals. She won one medal in the 10m air pistol women’s event and the other one in the mixed team event along with Sarabjot Singh. Manu, at the age of 22 achieved a sensational feat as she became the first Indian athlete, in the post-independence era, to claim two Olympic medals in a single edition of the Games.
Manu Bhaker recently talked about her coach Jaspal Rana’s role behind her medal-winning performance in Paris. “I would say he’s like a father to me and it’s a matter of trust that you put in a person. He gives me a lot of courage whenever I feel, whether I can do it or not,” she told PTI.
Talking about Manu Bhaker’s commitment and determination, Jaspal Rana said, “When we started 14 months back, there was only one request from my side to her: that we will not discuss the past. We’ll start from here and we’ll move forward. So we kept that thing throughout. My work is to protect her. It is not only coaching. At this level, we cannot teach them how to see or how to pull the trigger. We just need to give that protection even from their own self.”
At the Olympics 2024, Manu Bhaker was bestowed with the honours of being India’s flagbearer, along with legendary hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, at the closing ceremony.
