The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday named three skippers for their eight-match multi-format tour of South Africa next month, with Rohit Sharma leading the Tests side and Suryakumar Yadav and K.L. Rahul helming the T20I and ODI sides respectively.

The tour, which opens on December 10 with a T20I in Durban and is set to run until January 7, includes three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests, BCCI said in a press release.

The board said Rohit and Virat Kohli had asked for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour. Mohd. Shami is undergoing medical treatment and his availability was subject to fitness.

The squads: Tests: Rohit Sharma (capt.), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, K.L. Rahul, R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Mohd. Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna.

T20Is: Suryakumar Yadav (capt.), Jaiswal, Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Shreyas, Ishan, Jitesh Sharma, Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Siraj, Mukesh, and Deepak Chahar.

ODIs: Rahul (capt.), Ruturaj, Sai Sudharsan, Tilak, Rajat Patidar, Rinku, Shreyas, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Washington, Kuldeep, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mukesh, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep, and Deepak Chahar.

The schedule: 1st T20I: Dec. 10, Durban; 2nd T20I: Dec. 12, Gqeberha; 3rd T20I: Dec. 14, Johannesburg.

1st ODI: Dec. 17, Johannesburg; 2nd ODI: Dec. 19, Gqeberha; 3rd ODI: Dec. 21, Paarl.

1st Test: Dec. 26 to 30, Centurion; 2nd Test: Jan. 3 to 7, 2024, Cape Town.
