South Africa legend Allan Donald hailed Mohammed Siraj as a revelation after the pacer played a major role in India’s win in the Cape Town Test.
Siraj delivered a stellar performance in the second Test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town. His exceptional bowling, characterised by precise line and length, earned him career-best figures of 6-15, dismantling the South African batting lineup for a meagre 55 runs.
Siraj’s nine-over spell was pivotal in India’s dominance on the first day, contributing significantly to the historic win. His efforts were instrumental in securing India’s first Test victory at Newlands after seven attempts, and his role in the match was recognised with the Player of the Match award.
Speaking to Sportstar, Donald said he was impressed with the attitude and massive heart shown by Siraj and feels that the Indian pacer doesn’t take a backward step.
“Yes, absolutely. I’ve taken great care in watching India bring through some young quicks and the one that has just taken six for 15 (Mohammed Siraj in the first innings of the Cape Town Test) is a revelation.”
“I think when I was in Bangladesh, and when India played a Test series there and in Dhaka, the way he (Siraj) ran in every single ball was good to see. I think he’s got such a great attitude. He’s got tremendous skill and a massive heart.”
“We always talk about this white line fever, and this guy for me, just doesn’t take a backward step.
Siraj’s partnership with Bumrah is absolutely sublime: Siraj
Donald went on to comment on the partnership between Siraj and Bumrah and called it absolutely sublime after both men picked up six-wicket hauls during the Cape Town Test.
“And I think, partnering up with Jasprit Bumrah, and the two of them are just sublime, absolutely sublime. I know more and more will come through in India. There are many still sitting back home and knocking on the door. It’s fantastic,” said Donald.
