India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been out of the cricketing fold since October 2023. Pandya had slipped on his bowling mark in his very first over against Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup 2023. The Indian team missed Pandya in the World Cup and was forced to change their combinations going forward, but that did not affect the momentum of the Indian team.
Pandya skipped series against Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan after the World Cup and is expected to remain away from the game, at least till the Indian Premier League. The all-rounder did not play any domestic matches in between, which raised concerns among the Indian fans.
World Cup 2023: Hardik Pandya’s Injury
In a huge boost to Indian cricket fans’ morale, Hardik Pandya posted a video of him starting full training in the nets. The all-arounder took to Instagram to post a video of him batting in the nets and he captioned it “back at it”.
Hardik Pandya had captained the Indian T20I side since the last World Cup in Australia. Regular captain Rohit Sharma had not played in the format for over a year and only returned to the fold in Pandya’s absence against Afghanistan. Rohit hit his record 5th T20I hundred in the series which later resulted in Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honourary secretary Jay Shah announcing that Sharma would be captaining the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Even while being away from the game, Hardik Pandya was in the news. Pandya moved back to Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League after spending just two seasons at Gujarat Titans. The all-rounder had won the IPL title in his debut season as captain with Gujarat. He also took his team to the final in the next season, where he lost to MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. Pandya will captain the Mumbai Indians team in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
