The Kansas City Chiefs clinched back-to-back Super Bowls with their win in Las Vegas on Monday, February 12, with a 3-yard touchdown by Mecole Hardman from a Patrick Mahomes throw at the dying moments of the game. Hardman’s match-winning touchdown gave the Chiefs a close-call win over the San Francisco 49ers by a scoreline of 25-22.
Despite the high-value nature of the game with many stars in the lineup of both teams, the majority of the eager eyes were on the Chiefs’ popular tight end Travis Kelce. The 34-year-old was on the wagon of a lot of hype even before taking the field on Monday, a major portion of it fuelled by his relationship with Grammy-winning singer Taylor Swift.
Kelce put in an effective performance at the Allegiant Stadium in Nevada on Monday, making 9 catches for 93 yards during the game. Irrespective of the tight nature of the game between the two sides, Kelce in his post-match comments said that he was fully confident of his side bagging the win.
“Never a doubt in my mindâæWe’ve got the best quarterback in the league, we’ve got the best offensive line in the league, and we’ve got the most determination out of any team in the NFL and you saw all that tonight,” Travis Kelce said.
The tight-end emphasised that his confidence in the Chiefs was not limited to the Super Bowl, but has been the same throughout his stint with them.
“I guess at this point I take it for granted, but I know we’re in every single game I’ve ever played in, no matter what the score is or no matter how much time is left, that guy’s got magic in his right arm,” Kelce said.
KELCE’S PROMISE TO GIRLFRIEND TAYLOR SWIFT
Kelce did not shy away from mentioning his girlfriend after the match, dedicating the win to Taylor Swift. Kelce mentioned that on the day Swift earned her fourth career Grammy for album of the year the previous week, he informed her that he would “have to hold up his end of the bargain and bring home some hardware, too.”
The Ohio-born American footballer acknowledged the big nature of his side’s win and talked about how much it means to him.
“I’m going to go ahead and enjoy this and everything that just happened,” he said. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I’ve been able to go through three times now. It gets sweeter and sweeter every time,” Kelce added.
