In an interview with The Times of India, Manu, upon being informed about the online comments about her being seen at events with the bronze medals, she instantly replied, “I will, yeah! Why will I not?”
The sharp retort resulted in an applause from the audience.
Manu then explained how she was compelled to bring her silverware to these events because of the organisers’ demands.
“Everyone has this feeling to show the medal which is why I carry it in case someone wants to see it,” she said.
Manu added, “They even make a request saying, ‘Please, bring your medal along’ and when I do bring it, several pictures get snapped at these events.”
Manu says she’s grateful with the way her success is being celebrated.
“I mean, of course, people invite me so I’m always like ‘Why not? I should go.’ And before this, I never got a break to attend these events, nor did I have the liberty from my coach and parents. They were always like, ‘This competition, that competition.’ So I was always training. Now that I am getting the opportunity to attend these events, I am very happy and I feel very very grateful that I get so much love wherever I go,” the 22-year-old said.
Manu took the 2024 Paris Olympics by storm by becoming the first athlete of Independent India to notch two medals in the same edition of the quadrennial multi-sport spectacle.
She claimed bronze medal in the women’s 10-metre air pistol event and the 10-metre air pistol mixed team events.
In the mixed team event, she teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to clinch the medal.
