Royal Challengers Bangalore remained busy in the Women’s Premier League 2024 auction. RCB bought seven players in the mini-auction, hosted in Mumbai on Saturday, December 9. The team, which finished fourth among five teams in the inaugural edition of the tournament, needed to fill important slots in their team.

WPL Auction: Highlights

Speaking after the auction via a press release, captain Smriti Mandhana said that she is elated by the fact that the team chose to spend money on bowlers ahead of the 2024 tournament.

RCB bid on Kate Cross, Sophie Molineux, and Georgia Wareham in the auction, who are experienced campaigners. The team did not break the bank for anyone, unlike Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. Delhi bought Annabel Sutherland for Rs 2 crore, while Gujarat paid Rs 2 crore for uncapped India all-rounder Kashvee Gautam.

“Bowling is definitely very important in T20s and a good bowling side wins you competition and this year we were looking to strengthen our spin unit and also look for overseas pacers who can complement Renuka [Singh] well. We have Kate Cross now and I think she will complement Renuka well in the power play with both swinging the other way. And with Molineux and Wareham, the bowling looks very experienced. Plus we have the likes of Shreyanka [Patil] and also [Sophie] Devine and [Ellyse] Perry,” Mandhana said via an official press release.
