Aakash Chopra was highly impressed after Yashasvi Jaiswal set the stage on fire in India’s opening Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
On Day 1 of the Test, Jaiswal came to bat in the final and did not die wondering. The southpaw raced to his half-century off 47 balls and also built an 80-run partnership for the opening wicket along with skipper Rohit Sharma.
At Stumps on Day 1, Jaiswal stayed not out on 76 runs off 70 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes.
Chopra heaped praise on Jaiswal, saying that the left-hander is not the ‘future’ of Indian cricket anymore, and rather, the ‘present’.
Chopra took to X and wrote, “Yashasvi is a star, the attitude and the game-awareness. The style and the substance. Keep shining, young man. You’re no longer the future of Indian cricketâæ you’re the present.”
Axar Patel, who had figures of 13-1-33-2, said that he was in awe of the way Jaiswal counterattacked the English bowlers.
”We enjoyed the way Yashasvi was batting and he took on the spinners from the very first over. It was very good to unsettle them early,” Axar was quoted as saying in the press conference after the day’s play.
How did Jaiswal dictate terms to England?
Jaiswal started his knock with a boundary off fast bowler Mark Wood. From there on, he did not look back and played his shots without nurturing any features. Tom Hartley was harshly treated on debut as in his very first over, Jaiswal deposited him into the stands twice.
At no point in his knock did it seem that Jaiswal was not comfortable. On Day 2, the southpaw will be itching to get to his century as early as possible. After Rohit got out to Jack Leach, Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal in the middle and stayed not out on 14 off 43 balls with a four.
